back to hometown singapore on friday night.
definitely had many many wonderful memories in the UK. ((:
dont feel like coming back cos i will really miss the weather, the people there, and the temporary escape from reality; studying. arghhhh, now that i’m back, i gotta study which i have not been doing so! D: and so, i’m going to devote myself to studying from tomorrow on! JIAYOU!!!
anyway, UK trip was a fulfilling trip. really learnt alot of things from the tour guides, from the environment, from my peers and teachers. a really big thank you to all of them! :D
DAY ONE
tiring journey on the plane and finally reached the airport in manchester at 12pm+. excited, we coached to lake district. tried to send a message to my mum that i’m safe and sound in england but service wasnt available. rawr. and then we made a visit to one of Wordsworth’s homes, Dove Cottage. really small cottage, cosy in a sense. really enriching as well as there are also many exhibitions about his domestic life and his poetic works. reached the hostel thats facing a beautiful lake. very very nice! and there is nice, gentle breeze, a little chilly though, and grass which would be ideal to lie on to watch the night starry sky.(i’m starting to huan xiang le! hahaha. =P) hostel’s kinda scary, mostly due to my own psychological problem. toilets and showers are detached from our rooms, so we have to travel to the individual rooms for shower and toilets. scary because yealorr, scary cos it’s like an unfamiliar place and then you have to walk in and out of your room which is like the only place you will feel safe(maybe just for me. =P) in the hostel. we managed to change rooms. yay! so yokeling, angela, dorcas and me were all in the same room. one thing that i remembered very clearly would be seeing a guy trying to climb the exterior walls of the hostel. dont know what he’s trying to do! hahaha. and then slept with minimal or no movements at all throughout the night because of the creepy, shrieking sounds that the bed will make when i move for just a little bit.
DAY TWO
woke up early in the morning and made our way to meet tour guide, Ben, for a tour in White Moss something something. =P it’s a piece of land that consists of beautiful and breathtaking landscapes. many many greens with tinges of yellow, purple, red, pink, colours, basically. learnt a lot of things from Ben about some statistics in lake district, tourism and environment and energy sources. really really helpful for GP. =P i dont remember what we did in the middle but i think we made our way to haworth and then checked in the travelodge hotel till the next morning.
DAY THREE
a visit to the Bronte personage, learnt about the Bronte sisters. many exhibitions. shopping. and not to forget, super cold weather in which i still feel warmth inside cos angela and dorcas were hugging me to keep me warm! i feel so xin fu!!! hahahaha. :D made our way to stratford-upon-avon.
DAY FOUR
today, we visited Shakesphere’s birthplace. and a tour around the town to know more about Shakesphere’s life. nice little cottage. ohh! and i learnt that many many words like courtship and phrases were invented by him. tai li hai le!!! and then i was reminded of the wierd wierd word, which i am actually proud of (=P), that i invented, balabo! hahahahahaha! =P today, we have like 6 hours of shopping. all by ourselves. shuang. hahaha. bought quite a number of things. but felt guilty and regretful that we forgot all about the church where Shakesphere’s grave is. we didnt manage to visit it. D: we were kind of chided by the teachers during debrief though, for treating the trip like a holiday, all engrossed in shopping instead of a trip to maximise our learning. then we made our way to Oxford.
DAY FIVE
a session with Oxford City Council Member, Nuala Young, about many things about Oxford. mainly about tourism, urban planning, environmental concerns.. ohh, and we had this amazing opportunity to meet the Lord Mayor of the city. so stressful cos she is someone of high authorities. hahaha. she’s a very nice person though. ((: and then we had a tour around the various universities and colleges and Oxford. so cool! the infrastructure and antique designs of the schools. and they are huge! hahaha. whats even cool-er is that we were actually stepping on the grounds where harry potter had been before! ahhhh, and the huge tree where they had scenes there. so coool!!!! hahahaha. and then we travelled to London where we parted from our lovely coach driver, Kitch. he’s really the nicest driver i’ve ever met!
DAY SIX
at first, travelling around London is scary because we travelled via the tube which is what we call the MRT. their doors close fast and the stations and trains are often crowded. so we have to make a speedy boarding onto the train before the train door closes and we got separated from the rest of the group, in a foreign tube station, in a foreign land. scary. hahaha. but after awhile, it was quite okay and nobody really got seperated from the group. this day, we went to the British Library. huge library they have. and a 3D picture of the bookshelves in the library that looks like a painting. it’s amazing as it moves along with us as we walk past it. intelligent piece of work! and then we participated in a workshop about the english language and the various accents and pronounciations of the english language in different parts of the world. personally, i think singaporeans’ english accent is quite funny, which i didnt realise at all until i heard it from the audio. =P =P but it’s also very heartwarming that we do actually have our own unique accent that we are able to recognize even when we are away from singapore. hehehe. =P and then i forgot what. ohh, we met up with a poet, Jacob something something Rose. ahhh, so sorry! =P and then learnt about poetry and stuff. and then, the highlight of the day i must say, is the theatre performance we were going to catch in the evening. we have two performances to choose from and i chose woman in black, together with angela, yokeling, dorcas, weixin, sylvene and some other 4-5 people i think, and 2 teachers. it’s based on a ghost story. and indeed, there are many screamings during the performance and i must admit, i dont think i’m one of those who screamed cos i ‘screamed’ with my mouth closed because i was hiding behind my jacket. hahahahaha. =P okay la, i screamed. and i really did keep on ‘pouncing’ on angela. so sorry! =P overall, it’s a really great performance and it’s actually also quite funny cos many of us laughed after screaming. hahaha.
DAY SEVEN
Visited kingford community school. really nice people there. ((: and we had an art lesson in which it’s called inkwash. i miss art lessons! but then, my art really is sucky. haizzzz. and it makes me difficult to say that i like art because its like my art should be very good then. ahhhh.. anyway, then we made a trip to BBC television centre. love the part where we stood on top of the studios and see variety shows shooting in progress and the interactive studio. really fun! we caught a musical called Billy Elliot today. i must say, THIS IS AN AWESOME MUSICAL. love the dance, the ballet, the contemporary, the tap dance. the staging. WOWWWWWW. TAI LI HAI LE!!! AND I MISS DANCE. I MISS DANCING!!!!!! D:
DAY EIGHT
tour around the city to learn more about Oscar Wilde. and then sightseeing. airport. flight. home. i miss england!! D:
